SERPS Guide

If your question isn’t answered here, email us on [email protected].

Did you contract out of SERPS? Here’s how to find out if you have a lost or missing SERPS pension.

You can do this by contacting HMRC and your pension administrators. This is how:

Step 1: Request our ready made pension tracing form.* Just send us an email by clicking here and we will send you everything you need. We’ll keep in touch so you can ask us any questions throughout the process.

Step 2: Pop it in the post. Once you’ve printed out the form and completed it you just need to make sure you send it to;
SARS/DPU, National Insurance Contributions & Employers Office, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1AN.

Step 3: Get your results from HMRC. This will tell you your contracted-out of SERPS pension history. HMRC will typically take around 30 days to respond, so keep an eye out for their response. When you hear back from HMRC they will let you know where your pensions are but not the value of them or any details of their past performance.

Step 4: Sign up online to find out the value, performance and fees of your pension(s). If you manage to locate any pension contributions via HMRC, or any other pensions you know about, we’ll look at the whole of the market and find the best pension for you. If you have multiple pensions (or even just one), switching to a cheaper, well-invested pension could save you thousands. Just sign up to our impartial pension advice service with the pension information HMRC provide you.

The importance of pension advice:

1. You could be better off in retirement: The average UK consumer who takes financial advice will increase their wealth by £30,991**
2. Save money: Reduce the amount you pay in charges
3. Peace of mind: Know your pension is in the right place for you taking into consideration your personal circumstances

Capital at risk. Past performance is not a guide to future performance.
